Biography

Marie Madeleine Le Borgne was born in 1677 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle France. Her parents were Alexandre Le Borgne and Marie St-Étienne.

In 1686, at Port-Royal, Marie [sic], aged 9, was living with her parents, Le Sr. Alexandre LE BORGNE seigneur du lieu, aged 43, and Daelle. Marie de ST. ESTIENNE, aged 32, and her three siblings: Emanuel [sic], aged 11, Alexandre, aged 7, and Jeanne [sic], aged 5. Also in the household was Estienne AUCHER [HACHE'?], a domestic, aged 13. Their weapons, lands, cattle, and sheep were not listed.[1][2]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Marie [sic], aged 15, was living with her mother, Marie de St. Estienne, aged 38, widow, and her six siblings: Emanuel [sic] LEBORGNE [sic], aged 17, Alexandre, aged 13, Jeanne [sic], aged 11, Charles, aged 8, Marie Francoise, aged 5, and Anne, aged 3. The family owned 2 guns and was living on 31 arpents of cultivable land with 13 cattle, 15 sheep, and 20 pigs.[3]

She married Alexandre Girouard in 1694. Together they had 10 children:

  1. Marie Anne Girouard
  2. Bernard Girouard

She died about 1727 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie, Nova Scotia.

By 1698, Marie Leborgne, age 22, was married to Alexandre, age 27. There were two children: Marie 3, and Bernard 1. The family had 5 cattle, 6 sheep, and 5 hogs. Stephen White estimated the couple married about 1694 in Port Royal. He appeared on the census of 1700, [4] age 29; and was 30 on the census of 1701.[5][6]

Alexandre was Sieur de RU and married the daughter of Seigneur Alexandre LeBorgne of Belle Isle.[7]

Marie died after 1727 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, aged about 50.[citation needed]
